What You'll Find in Their Catalogue
House of Staunton's catalog spans a wide range of chess products designed for players at every level. The collection includes both wood chess pieces and complete chess set packages, with options starting at entry-level prices for beginners and climbing to premium heirloom-quality pieces for collectors. The product range reflects their commitment to serving casual players who want an affordable set to learn on, as well as enthusiasts willing to invest in pieces they'll pass down to future generations. Wood chess pieces are available as standalone items if you already own a board but need replacement or upgrade pieces. The breadth of their offerings means you can start your chess journey for under $20 or build a showpiece collection over time. Most players will find multiple options within their budget range, though the catalog skews heavily toward middle-ground choices rather than ultra-budget or ultra-luxury extremes.
Where House of Staunton Excels
The strongest element of House of Staunton's offering is the honest range of materials and price points without artificial inflation. You get transparent pricing from $10 entry-level sets through to $1,339 for their most refined collections, and the site clearly categorizes products so you know what you're buying. Their wood chess pieces line gives you the option to buy components separately, which appeals to players who want to customize or replace worn pieces. The company's positioning around heirloom-quality products shows they understand that chess pieces can be lifetime purchases, which informs their material and build choices across the range. For collectors specifically, the ability to source luxury sets from one vendor with regular promotional pricing is a genuine convenience.
Limitations to Know Before You Buy
House of Staunton's catalog is heavily weighted toward wood and traditional materials, which means if you're looking for modern novelty sets (tournament-grade plastic, glass, or specialized competition boards with timers), your options may be limited compared to larger retailers.
Common questions
Can I buy individual chess pieces instead of full sets?
Yes. House of Staunton offers wood chess pieces as standalone items, so you can replace worn pieces, customize a set, or build a collection incrementally. This is useful if you own a board but need new pieces.
